Dear Colleagues,

In recent years, there has been an increasing acknowledgment within the academic community of the significance of managing sow fat deposits for the purpose of sustaining optimal reproductive performance. Throughout the stages of mating, pregnancy, parturition, and lactation, the deposition of maternal fat and the metabolism of lipids undergo dynamic alterations to fulfill the requirements of bodily reproduction. The level of maternal lipid metabolism directly impacts reproductive performance, and as parity increases, there are corresponding changes in both maternal lipid deposition and lipid metabolism capacity. The deposition of excessive fat in sows can result in placental dysfunction, thereby leading to unfavorable pregnancy outcomes. Conversely, inadequate fat intake can lead to embryo loss during the early stages of pregnancy. Consequently, the preservation of a stable fat level and lipid metabolism capacity in sows has emerged as a fundamental indicator for ensuring optimal maternal reproductive performance.

The aim of this Special Issue is to investigate the correlation mechanism between lipid metabolism and reproduction, as well as the methods of nutritional regulation. We intend to examine the impact of lipid metabolism on sow pregnancy and to sustain the reproductive capacity of sows through nutritional regulation.
