Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

With the further expansion of urbanization and increase of the world’s population nowadays, the construction of high-rise buildings and long-span highway bridges, as well as other significant reinforced concrete (RC) engineering structures, is increasing. However, during their service range, these engineering structures are prone to various deterioration mechanisms because of environmental effects and climate change, e.g., erosion, carbonation, freeze–thaw cycles, fatigue, and chloride-induced corrosion (CIC), etc. Thus, it is of the utmost significance to improve the ultimate strength and life-cycle performance of engineering structures to ensure the safety and durability of lifeline structures, reduce tremendous social and economic losses, and, more importantly, mitigate the human casualties. This also necessitates investigations regarding how to improve the mechanical properties of concrete materials, as well as the deteriorated structural resistance and residual strength of RC structures. High performance fiber reinforced concrete (HPFRC) is known as a novel, sustainable, high-performance cementitious composite material, which has superior mechanical properties to traditional concrete. Due to its superior mechanical properties and excellent durability, HPFRC has received a lot of attention in recent years, and both theoretical research and engineering applications are being constantly enriched. Many researchers are dedicated to investigating the mechanical performance of HPFRC and the structural behavior of novel engineering structures made from HPFRC.

Within this frame, the objective of this Special Issue is to spotlight the advancements, applications, and construction techniques associated with HPFRC and HPFRC structures. We are urgently inviting possible contributions dealing with:

  • Mix design of HPFRC.
  • Innovative concepts to improve the mechanical properties of HPFRC.
  • Strength theories and constitutive relationships of HPFRC.
  • Bond behavior of HPFRC.
  • Thermal properties and fire behavior of HPFRC.
  • Durability of HPFRC.
  • Structural design and analysis of HPFRC structures.
  • Engineering applications of HPFRC.
  • Seismic performance of HPFRC structures.
  • Rehabilitation of the corroded RC structures using HPFRC, etc.

For this Special Issue, we enthusiastically invite the submission of original papers that encompass the aforementioned topics, as well as those that address broader themes encompassing related methodologies, numerical and experimental investigations, and case studies centered around HPFRC and HPFRC structures.
