Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to our Special Issue of Life, entitled “Nutrition and Chronic Disease”. This Special Issue aims to serve as an interdisciplinary platform that covers the latest updates on the nutritional therapeutic agents for chronic diseases.

Nutritional interventions have been widely acknowledged to play a critical role in reducing the incidence of many chronic diseases. These bioactive nutrients modulate the pathogenic factors involved in tissue inflammation and oxidative stress, mitigate mitochondrial dysfunction, alter cellular metabolism, act as senolytics or senomorphics, and impact the cell epigenome. Subsequently, bioactive nutrients and nutritional interventions have been developed as attractive strategies to manage disease progression and regression. Furthermore, extensive basic and clinical research highlight the current evidence-based recommendations of nutrient management across a wide spectrum of chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, metabolic disease, cancer, neurodegenerative disease, and aging-related disorders. This Special Issue welcomes papers addressing the following topics (but are not limited to them):

  1. Defining the nutritional status of a chronic disease or clarifying the effects of a specific nutrient or a bioactive nutritional compound on a chronic disease;
  2. Identification of novel nutritional targets that govern the development of chronic diseases by deciphering their pathomechanisms;
  3. Development, modulation, and characterization of novel nutritional interventions for the treatment of chronic diseases through targeting etiology, risk factors, inflammation, or oxidative stress, as well as their mechanisms of action.

We welcome well-designed research articles and reviews addressing all of the above issues.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Life is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
