Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Supply chains form the backbone of modern economies, connecting manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, and retailers in complex networks. The efficient management of these interconnected systems is crucial to achieving seamless operations, reducing costs, and meeting the ever-increasing demands of customers.

In this Special Issue, we delve into the realm of applied mathematics and optimization algorithms to tackle the myriad challenges faced by supply chains. Contributors to this Special Issue are expected to delve into diverse aspects of supply chains, addressing critical topics such as inventory management, distribution network design, production planning, transportation logistics, and demand forecasting. These studies will strive to enhance efficiency, responsiveness, and sustainability within supply chains. Potential topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Multi-echelon inventory optimization models for improved stock control and demand fulfillment;
  • Robust optimization approaches to handle uncertainties and disruptions in supply chain operations;
  • Sustainable supply chain design and optimization considering environmental and social impacts;
  • The application of metaheuristic, simheuristic, and learnheuristic algorithms used for solving complex supply chain problems;
  • Real-time routing and scheduling optimization to enhance transportation efficiency and reduce delivery costs;
  • Humanitarian logistics and emergency response optimization for efficient disaster relief operations;
  • Supply chain risk assessment and mitigation using mathematical models and data analytics;
  • Inventory routing and last-mile delivery optimization for e-commerce and urban logistics;
  • Data visualization and interfaces for supply chain management;
  • Metrics and key performance indicators for supply chain management.

We encourage researchers and practitioners to submit their original research and insightful contributions on these and related topics.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Mathematics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
