29–30 May 2024 PTMBact 2024

Rouen, France

Post-translational modifications (PTMs) are essential for the regulation of cellular functions in all living organisms. They play roles in bacterial virulence, resistance, biofilm formation, and motility. With the emergence of increasingly resistant bacterial strains, it is now necessary to research new strategies to combat pathogenic microorganisms. In 2016, an English study estimated that if no progress is made in this field, from 2050 onwards, more than 10 million people will die each year from an infection caused by multi-resistant bacteria, i.e., more than the number of people who die from cancer. Targeting the modified residues and/or enzymes involved in these modification mechanisms could be a promising antibacterial strategy, as is currently used in the context of therapies against specific cancers or latent viral infections.

The interest of the scientific community in bacterial PTMs has been growing steadily in recent years, both internationally and nationally. Thus, the PTMBact international congress was established in 2014 and is held every two years.

This conference brings together researchers with multidisciplinary and complementary skills in the following:

  • Microbiology;
  • Mass spectrometry;
  • Bioinformatics;
  • Molecular biology;
  • Biochemistry;
  • Microscopy.

9–12 June 2024 Ninth International Conference on Emerging Zoonoses

Palermo, SI, Italy

Outbreaks of previously unknown or forgotten zoonotic pathogens increase the vulnerability of human life and remain of great concern as they will continue to cause problems for animal and human health. Recently, the impact of zoonotic pathogens has been felt profoundly around the entire world due to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Also, in the past year, a re-emerging pathogen, the Monkeypox virus, infected thousands of people worldwide. There is no doubt that zoonotic pathogens will continue to pose significant challenges to global health security in years to come.

Our conference serves as a platform where we can all come together to better understand, address, discuss, and alleviate the risks associated with emerging zoonotic and transboundary disease threats.

29 June–3 July 2024 International Symposium on EBV & KSHV & Related Agents & Diseases—3rd Joint Meeting

Boston, MA, USA

This joint meeting will bring together researchers studying the oncogenic gamma-herpesviruses EBV and KSHV, as well as related agents, including murine gammaherpesvirus-68. Sessions will highlight viral pathogenesis, viral latency and reactivation, viral gene expression and replication, host responses to infection and autoimmunity, epidemiology, vaccine development, and therapeutic intervention.

The EBV/KSHV 2024 scientific advisory board (SAB) will formulate an innovative and thematic format for the meeting. The meeting encourages the presentation of data before publication to enable open discussion and feedback from a field of experts, in addition to fostering the development of their scientific communication skills. Networking opportunities will be structured for trainees to interact with senior faculty at academic institutions and scientists from industry and government. Senior scientists, clinicians, and trainees at all levels are invited to participate and attend as well as attendees with knowledge and interests outside the EBV/KSHV community to bring perspective and instructive comparisons. As a means to feature the most up-to-date and exciting unpublished research, more than 95% of the speakers will be selected based on the merits of submitted abstracts.

21–25 July 2024 Virus Structure and Assembly Conference 2024

Southbridge, MA, USA

The conference will cover topics and methodologies such as in situ structural virology, viral genomics, new anti-viral treatments, emerging viruses, and pandemic readiness. It is an ideal forum for academic researchers, post-docs, and graduate students as well as researchers from governmental agencies and the private sector. The conference will feature discoveries and methodologies to study viruses, which are crucial to identifying new pharmacological targets and treatments for viral diseases.

To stimulate discussion and research advances in this area, we also launched a conference Special Issue:
