16–18 October 2024 IECN2024: The 4th International Electronic Conference on Nutrients—Plant-Based Nutrition Focusing on Innovation, Health, and Sustainable Food Systems

Online

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to this virtual online conference, an exclusive meeting dedicated to the latest developments in scientific research in the field of nutrient research, with a focus on innovations for health and sustainability. This conference aims to serve as a multidisciplinary platform for the exploration of innovative research and advancements in nutrient science. Emphasizing both macro- and micronutrients, the conference will delve into novel methodologies for nutrient extraction, bioavailability, and functional food development. Analytical techniques such as metabolomics, proteomics, and nutrient profiling will be discussed in the context of their application to food safety and quality. As the global search for healthier and more sustainable diets intensifies, the role of nutrients and lifestyle modification are at the forefront. For a healthier and more sustainable diet, it is clear that most people will need to incorporate more plant-based foods into their diet. Moreover, as we strive to feed a growing world population, the role of plant-based foods becomes increasingly critical. The aim is to explore the effectiveness of using plant-based nutrition as a primary approach in preventing, suspending, and even reversing chronic diseases. Furthermore, the conference aims to foster dialogue on the critical intersections between nutrient science, public health, and sustainable food systems. Our collective goal is to challenge existing scientific paradigms, broaden the scope of research, and contribute to an integrated approach where innovation, health, and sustainability coexist harmoniously.

The topics of this conference include:
S1. Plant-Based Diets: Health and Well-being
S2. Innovation in Dietary Choices
S3. Diet and Chronic Disease Management
S4. Global Nutrition Trends: Shaping Health and Athletic Performance
S5. Behavioral Approaches to Healthier Eating
S6. Nutrition Across the Lifespan

I extend my warmest welcome to you, esteemed scholars and experts, as participants of this virtual online conference. Together, we will embark on a journey into the diverse world of plant-based nutrition, sharing knowledge and discoveries that will shape the future of food systems for the benefit of humanity and the planet.

Best wishes,
Mauro Lombardo

18–21 June 2024 5th European Summer School on Nutrigenomics

Senigallia, AN, Italy

Nutritional epigenetics as a new strategy for a long and healthy life for humans and the environment

Dear colleagues,

The 5th European Summer School on Nutrigenomics is open to Ph.D. students and researchers interested in nutritional epigenetics. After an introduction to the discipline, the summer school will offer an update on new evidence on the complex link among early life exposures, epigenetics, microbiota, and nutrition.

The topics of the 5th European Summer School on Nutrigenomics are as follows:

  1. Introduction to nutri-epigenomics: new discoveries for healthy life;
  2. Environmental epigenetics: from early life to aging;
  3. Nutrigenomics and gut microbiota;
  4. Nutrigenomics in longitudinal large-scale studies.

8–10 December 2024 MEDLIFE 2024: Mediterranean Life Sciences Union Annual Meeting

Istanbul, Türkiye

Dear colleagues,

It is a pleasure and an honor to invite you to attend the Mediterranean Life Sciences Union Annual Meeting (MedLIFE-24), which will be held in-person and online on 08–10 December 2024, in the Congress Center of Istanbul Technical University in Türkiye. Researchers from all fields of life sciences, both in the Mediterranean area and throughout the world, are invited to present and discuss their most recent research discoveries at MedLIFE-24 and to publish their findings in the MedLIFE-24 proceedings.

After the remarkable successes of the Mediterranean Geosciences Union Annual Meetings (MedGU-21 in Istanbul, MedGU-22 in Marrakech, and MedGU-23 in Istanbul), which was aimed mainly at highlighting the contribution of the Earth Sciences community in addressing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it became obvious that there is a need to expand this global scale initiative to create extensive and comprehensive international annual meetings for other science unions, with the aim of bringing together researchers to present and discuss their most recent findings and contribute, from their perspectives, to addressing the SDGs.

With this objective in mind and as a continuation of the tremendous success of the MedGU Annual Meetings, which have attracted overwhelming interest, with over 4000 abstract submissions from 95 countries, the MedLIFE-24 will be organized to provide a forum for life scientists from the Mediterranean region and all over the world. Researchers, particularly those in the early stages of their careers, can be informed about the latest studies and discuss their latest unpublished findings with experts from the wide-ranging fields of life sciences.

Connecting and communicating the impact of life science research on sustainability is critical for shaping and influencing the life sciences' future, including training next-generation life scientists, accelerating scientific innovation, and advancing our understanding of life, the planet, and beyond. In this regard, the life sciences should maintain and continue playing their specific role in achieving the SDGs. For example, life sciences have been used in the health, medicine, and pharmaceutical industries to improve people's quality of life. Also, several SDGs directly or indirectly address the water–food–energy nexus, which has been a focal point for life scientists throughout their history in research. Life scientists are, therefore, critical to delivering the SDGs. Their vast knowledge of the function and interactions of living organisms and their environments, together with the ability to translate this knowledge into tools to inform policy and practice, may help to enlighten many important areas and inform many key aspects of sustainable development.

In this context, MedLIFE-24 seeks to highlight and strengthen the synergies and links between different life science segments and the UN SDGs. For example, SDG 3, "ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being," is one of the 17 goals and targets that is especially pertinent to life science. It stands for the core of sustainable efforts in the field. Given their traditional focus on “purposive” research, life scientists have adopted and continue to pursue integrative approaches, for example, by complementing perspectives from natural and technical disciplines with those from the environmental and social sciences. They can thus offer expertise in integrating knowledge from the natural, technical, and social sciences to provide solutions for many of the global challenges posed by sustainable development.

MedLIFE-24, through engagement by life scientists in academia, research, industry, government, and civil society, working across sectors and in close partnership with other disciplines (e.g., engineering, earth science, environmental sciences, and social sciences), can inform many key aspects of sustainable development. MedLIFE-24 will host initiatives that allow life scientists to agree to conduct transdisciplinary research with stakeholders. This can contribute to theory development, since integrating academic and experiential knowledge from practice actors is crucial for the transformation towards sustainability.

During MedLIFE-24, prominent speakers will be invited to give Plenaries. Moreover, we are planning a rich Conference Program, including regular and Special Sessions, a Social Program, and an Excursion to Cappadocia, where participants can take a little time out to explore the wonders of Türkiye and discover new experiences and sensations.

As with the previous MedGU Annual Meetings (see SpringerLink), the latest research findings at MedLIFE-24 will be published in the conference proceedings by Springer in the IEREK Interdisciplinary Series for Sustainable Development ASTI Book Series (indexed in Scopus/SCImago) and in some Special Issues, with a clear mission to encourage greater scientific cooperation and to open doors to new and enriching collaborations between life scientists on the opposite shores of the Mediterranean and from all over the world.

MedLIFE-24 is looking forward to cordially welcoming you to Istanbul. Your participation, in person or virtually, will support MedLIFE’s mission of ensuring a sustainable future for humanity in the region and the planet.

Join us for a memorable experience!

Yours sincerely,

The MedLIFE-24 Steering and Organizing Committees
